City of Richmond Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities, Broadway In Richmond, and Altria Theater, announce THE CORNIEST FALL FESTIVAL EVER! Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Monroe Park from 11am – 3pm. The event is free and will kick off the fall season in the beautiful and historic park located across from the Altria Theater and everyone is invited.
The theme of the festival is centered around corn which embodies the first show of the new 2024 -2025 Broadway In Richmond season, SHUCKED which plays Altria Theater October 29 – November 3, 2024. SHUCKED is the Tony Award®–winning musical comedy The Wall Street Journal calls “flat out hilarious!” And nobody knows funny like economists. Featuring a book by Tony Award winner Robert Horn (Tootsie), a score by the Grammy® Award–winning songwriting team of Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally (Kacey Musgraves’ “Follow Your Arrow”) and directed by Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien (Hairspray), this corn-fed, corn-bred American musical is sure to satisfy one’s appetite for great musical theater.
THE CORNIEST FALL FESTIVAL EVER! is for all ages with various activities scheduled throughout the day including live music, mini train rides, a petting zoo, fair games, food trucks and vendors. SHUCKED themed cornhole boards will be set up to encourage friends and families alike to engage in a fun and lively match. Those who have a great family recipe for cornbread should consider entering the CORNBREAD CONTEST sponsored by WTVR CBS 6. Contestants will submit their recipe and will be randomly selected to present their finished product to a panel of celebrity judges, including reporter and weekend anchor, Greg McQuade and meteorologist Mike Stone of CBS6 Saturday and Sunday Morning. The winner of the contest will win four tickets to see SHUCKED on Tuesday, October 29 at 7:30pm and will appear on the live morning show, Virginia This Morning to share their recipe. Broadway In Richmond season subscriptions are still on sale as well individual tickets for The Book Of Mormon, SHUCKED, and MAMMA MIA! and will be available for purchase at a mobile box office kiosk under the Altria Theater marquee during the festival from 11am – 3pm.
