Broadway in Richmond Announces 2025 - 2026 Season

RICHMOND, VA -- February 27, 2025 – Presenter Nederlander National Markets announces a sensational line-up for the 2025 – 2026 Broadway In Richmond six-show subscription series, plus an add-on option, all productions will be performed at the Altria Theater. The season is about the spectacle and magic of live theater, with four Richmond premieres, the return of two family favorites, and an iconic musical as an add-on.

Kicking off the 2025 - 2026 Broadway In Richmond season is KIMBERLY AKIMBO, winner of five 2023 Tony Awards® including Best Musical, in its Richmond premiere this November 2025. The beloved, cinematic classic and award-winning, BACK TO THE FUTURE: THE MUSICAL brings the DeLorean Time Machine to Richmond in January 2026 for its Virginia premiere, and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, Disney’s first North American production of the beloved musical in over 25 years, returns to the Altria Theater in March 2026. Also, in March 2026, and another Richmond premiere is THE OUTSIDERS, winner of four 2024 Tony Awards®, including Best Musical. The Tony Award®-winning Best Musical that took the world by storm is back: THE WIZ will play in April 2026 and Broadway’s hilarious, romantic comedy, & JULIET will wrap up the season in May 2026. This year’s add-on option is still the world’s most popular musical, LES MISÉRABLES, and it’s returning to Richmond this December 2025 and can be added to any six-show season ticket package.

Tuesday, November 4, – Sunday, November 9, 2025 with 8 performances at Altria Theater

A new musical about growing up and growing old (in no particular order), KIMBERLY AKIMBO is the winner of five Tony Awards including BEST MUSICAL.  It features Tony Award-winning book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire (Shrek), a Tony Award-winning score by Jeanine Tesori (Fun Home), choreography by Danny Mefford (Dear Evan Hansen) and direction by Tony-nominated director Jessica Stone (Water for Elephants).

Kimberly is about to turn 16 and recently moved with her family to a new town in suburban New Jersey. In this “howlingly funny heartbreaker of a show” (The New Yorker), Kim is forced to navigate family dysfunction, a rare genetic condition, her first crush … and possible felony charges. Ever the optimist, she is determined to find happiness against all odds and embark on a great adventure.

Great Scott! Back to the Future, the beloved, cinematic classic is now a Broadway musical with its destination set for Richmond in 2026.

THE WIZ returns “home” to stages across America in an all-new tour, direct from Broadway. This groundbreaking twist on The Wizard of Oz changed the face of Broadway—from its iconic score packed with soul, gospel, rock, and 70s funk to its stirring tale of Dorothy’s journey to find her place in a contemporary world.

With direction by Schele Williams (The Notebook, revival of Disney’s Aida), choreography by JaQuel Knight (Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies,” Black Is King) and additional material by Tony-nominated and Emmy-nominated writer and TV host Amber Ruffin (The Amber Ruffin Show, Late Night with Seth Meyers), this dynamite infusion of ballet, jazz, and modern pop brings a whole new groove to easing on down the road.  Everybody rejoice!
